By way of example, "The Jungle Book". Disney has Bagheera and Baloo rescuing Mowgli from the monkeys with a jazzy musical number. Kipling had the panther and bear go in with fang and claw, getting the kid out over a mountain of monkey bodies.
I don't know which version I prefer. One is silly happy fun. One is exciting and riveting. All depends on what day it is, I guess. Jelly beans or dark chocolate?
The Vietnamese version of Cinderella (called "Tấm Cám") has one variant ending in the Vietnamese Cinderella Tấm making the mean stepsister into a fermented paste, sending that paste to the stepmother, then the stepmother eating it, finding it delicious until she realised it was her daughter and died from shock.

That's a good point, there's no right or wrong answer. Sometimes you just feel one way, sometimes the other!
