Problem happens both ways. I used to get Australian mail from the US dispatched to Austria quite frequently.
Solution: Österreich
exactly what I thought!
So you're from Ostend?
But ostriches are in Africa...
Apparently the country formerly known as "Swaziland" changed its name to "Eswatini" because they didn't want to be mistaken for Switzerland.
Just because Mswati III wants something doesn't make it so. It's Swaziland.
even search engines are doing it:https://i.imgur.com/YSulqd6.png
Hah!
If Frankreich is France maybe Österreich should have been Austance. Or Ausland. Or Ausany. Eastland? Maybe the problem is with the Americans...
Just say Vienna lol. At least they should know that's in Europe. Better than "The other Germany." XD
Just translate Österreich literally. "I hail from the Eastern Realm". Sounds more epic to boot.
You cannot imagine my relief when I heard that the same thing happens to Australians as well (but the other way 'round). I had thought that Australia somehow eclipsed Austria, but it's just that no one really cares about either of our countries.
