  1. I didn't realize any European countries used the 11# scheme for emergency numbers. I know I was initially surprised to find that South Korea did (119 for emergency, 114 for information, etc.), but the more I thought about it that method actually makes more sense from a phone number routing standpoint than the method used in the US. -Warp3

  2. I'll remember to ask the right questions when I hear a neighbor screaming for help!
Wonder if there's a special number for rescuing cats from trees?

  6. The same happens in Spain. We have 112, like all EU countries, but sometimes it is better to use other numbers. 091 for the police in a city, 062 for military police (outside the city), and so on for fires, crimes, traffic, medical assistance, etc.

  7. And then there's 186, for dictating and sending telegrams

  8. Here in Poland we got it easy. When you don't know, who should help, or you know, but more than one departments should help, call 112. For police, we dial number 997. For fire department - 998. And for ambulance - 999.
